Nono Suhana

As a first-generation coffee farmer and large landowner in the "Tangkuban Perahu" region in West Java, he found his calling as a coffee farmer. He bought the 28 ha of land and developed it into a coffee plantation.

With the support of Dave, our contact person in Bandung, West Java, who helped us export this product, Nono hired another 80 small coffee farmers from the region as day laborers or pickers during the harvest season, as he could not manage the size of his new plantation on his own. A small part of his first harvest in 2023 was sold to us in Germany and a large part to Australia.

Christa visited Nono personally in his home and on his plantation at the end of November 2023 and met his family. Nono and his family are grateful that they too can experience the two-king principle in West Java.

It is a great joy for us to activate this principle in other parts of Indonesia so that God's justice can be experienced among the other small farmers and Jesus Christ can be honored. In West Java in particular, the coffee farmers are Muslims (in contrast to the village of Tangkul on the island of Flores, which is Catholic).

Mr. Suhana's 28-hectare coffee plantation is located between 1,200 and 1,600 m above sea level and produces a yield of 7,500 to a maximum of 15,000 kg.

Cost Accounting

Arabica Full Washed 6.59 €/kg

The red cherries cost IDR 13,000 per kg (IDR 3,000 of which is profit for the smallholder farmer).

7 kg of cherries are needed for 1 kg of green coffee in fully washed processing = 7 x 13,000 = 91,000 IDR or € 5.35.

In addition, there are costs for processing (with machine), sacks, plastic containers, grain pro and jute sacks = IDR 7,300 or € 0.43.

The processor at the location defines IDR 3,700 or € 0.22 as his fee/profit/margin.

In the end, Dave also demands a fee/profit/margin of IDR 10,000 or € 0.59.

In addition, there are costs for processing (with machine), sacks, plastic containers, grain pro and jute sacks = IDR 7,300 or € 0.43.

The responsible person (processor) at the location defines IDR 18,700 or € 1.10 as a fee/profit/margin on his part.

In the end, Dave also demands a fee/profit/margin of IDR 10,000 or € 0.59.
